28 Dubai Neighbourhoods Given New Names in 2024

28 Dubai neighbourhoods have been given new names, according to the Dubai Land Department.  

A city known to be every-changing and evolving, some very well-known areas of Dubai will now take on brand new titles – and there are nearly 30 to remember!

Shared by the Dubai Land Department on Sunday 14^th January, an initial release listed a range of neighbourhoods from across our wonderful city and their new names.

However, the announcement has now been removed and instead replaced by a notice that they “are in the process of updating the names of areas and will be back soon.”

This means there could still be some changes and alterations, but this is what we know so far:

• The area (345) Sheikh Zayed Road will change to Burj Khalifa. The road will likely keep its name, but the area will change to mark the city’s famous landmark. This is an important one to note, as it could be easy to get confused.
• Emirates Hills will be renamed to Al Thanyah, and Motor City will now become Al Hebiah First.
• Sports City will become Al Hebiah Fourth, and Golf City to be renamed Al Hebiah Fifth.

Following the update, the address of Housekeeping Co will remain the same, with our centre located at Equiti Metro Station Exit 2, Sheikh Zayed Road, Umm al Sheif.

Did you know that throughout history, many of Dubai’s areas have been named thoughtfully to reflect both heritage and culture.

For example, Al Barsha’s meaning describes plentiful small grass, attributed to the trees that gave the area a natural glow. Jumeirah is also associated with two phrases describing burning embers, thought to mirror the hot sands and winds, as well as another which mirrors the white glittering beaches.
